accutaneAre you smart enough to know all the subtle and unexpected surprises this might cause? Are you certain that it's harmless or harmful only to a vanishingly small subset of users to be considered safe? You would have to be very smart or very arrogant to say for sure. Accutane is not nearly as well studied as tobacco or aspirin and we can't know which it's closer to in terms of safety. My argument is that since we cannot know for sure, and since acne is not life threatening, it is better not to take the risk.
Wash the skin with a cleanser that is ph balanced for the skin, so as not to strip the protective barrier. Add a little food grade diatomaceous earth to this for a gentle, yet effective scrub. Thereafter use a cotton ball soaked with 50% apple cider vinegar with water or witch hazel for sensitive skin.
I had gone on and off from flawless to blemished skin and resigned myself to a comfortable in-between. Then came 2020, and I had the worst breakout I’ve ever had. According to the American Academy of Dermatology, about 85% of patients see their skin permanently clear after one course of treatment. For those affected by severe nodular acne sufferers and have tried everything from acne medicines to antibiotics and have been disappointed by their results, Accutane is a popular option. There is really no evidence to show that increased cholesterol levels while on treatment are at all dangerous and once off, levels quickly return to normal.
The recommendation for using the lower doses over a longer period is quite recent. Lower doses seem to be as effective with fewer side effects and better tolerability. Isotretinoin blood levels return to normal within two weeks of discontinuing the drug. Enroll women of childbearing age in the Pregnancy Prevention Program with routine pregnancy testing.
Abnormal liver tests may indicate an abnormality of the liver and provide clues as to the nature of the problem. However, in an asymptomatic patient, mild abnormalities may not be clinically significant. A systematic approach to evaluating the patient and ordering further tests will help to identify underlying disease. Further testing and referrals may not be necessary in many circumstances. This is often prescribed to girls/women for acne and we do not understand the long term impact, but I believe there is a case to be made that it is dangerous. Aside from causing horrible mood swings and depression/ anxiety in many females, these chemicals often cause somnolence, weight gain, a lack of libido, and long-term hormonal havoc.
Initial treatment using a regular, non-medicated shampoo at least 3 times a week may be all that is needed to control symptoms and improve the appearance of the hair. Nasal saline irrigation can be useful for allergic and chronic rhinosinusitis, improving symptoms by about 30%. Chronic sinusitis cannot be "cured" in most patients, so therapy is intended to reduce symptoms and improve quality of life. The most common adverse effect of these bleaching products is sensitivity.
It is convenient since you don’t have to give a dose each month. In Saskatchewan one dose per year may cover the worst of the tick season. Although errors can occur with any method, rectal measurement is recommended in Canada as the gold standard for the most accurate temperature reading in children 5 and under. Oral measurement is recommended in children over 5 years. Axillary temperature can be used for screening low-risk children of all ages while tympanic temperature measurement can be used as a screening tool for low-risk children 2 years and older.
